§ Mr. ROBERTSONasked the Secretary for Scotland whether his attention has been drawn to the successful work of the Glasgow distress committee at Palacerigg in reclaiming land, growing food, and manufacturing moss litter; if he is aware of the possibilities of expanding this useful work; and whether, under the Unemployment (Relief Works) Bill, local authorities will be able to get grants for work of this kind?
§ Mr. MUNROI am aware that useful work has been done by the Glasgow distress committee at the Palacerigg Farm Colony, but no recent representation has been made to me with regard to its expansion. Under the Unemployment (Relief Works) Bill presently before Parliament, a contribution may be made by one local authority to another, or by a local authority to a Government Department in respect of the expenses incurred in carrying out any work of public utility as defined in the Bill.
