The following is the reply
Extract Paragraph 8 of an (Army) Despatch from the Government of India, No. 35, dated 6th May, 1920.8. All the available land at the disposal of local governments was set aside some time ago for distribution among Indian officers and other ranks or their heirs in recognition of distinguished service during the War, and it would not be possible now to take away any portion of that land for allotment to British officers. The bestowal of grants of land on British officers who may wish to settle in India is not contemplated. The case of Indian officers holding King's commissions would be considered on their merits.
