Mr. DOYLEasked the Home Secretary when it is proposed to abolish the 20 miles per hour limit for motor cars, which nobody pays the smallest attention to?
§ Mr. NEALI have been asked to answer this question. The question of speed limits is under consideration, but my right hon. Friend the Minister of Transport does not propose to take any action until he is in a position to deal comprehensively with the whole question of speed limits as applied to different types of road vehicles. It may be pointed out that the maximum speed limit of 20 miles per hour is imposed by statute, and cannot be abolished without fresh legislation.
