§ Mr. JESSONasked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the great necessity for 398W establishing the sugar industry widely throughout the various parts of the Empire, assurances will be given as to adequate preference in the future for Empire-grown sugars as against foreign sugars imported into this country that are subsidised by bounties or in any other way; and whether the Government is aware of the importance not only of the direct product but of the available byproducts of sugar manufacturing, especially in the matter of power alcohol?
§ Mr. BONAR LAWAs my hon. Friend knows, a very valuable preference is now being given to Empire-grown sugar, and it is certainly the intention of the Government to continue this system. The importance of sugar and of its by-products is fully recognised.
