§ Mr. PENNEFATHERasked the Secretary of State for War (1) whether the military lorry on which three soldiers were killed and others wounded in county Tipperary on Thursday last was armoured; if not, what protection, if any, was provided for the soldiers who were in it;
(2) whether the disaster to a patrol of the Essex Regiment in Ireland on the 22nd October was due to one of the military lorries employed being brought to a standstill by being struck in a vital part of its machinery by a bullet; and, if so, whether any precautions had been taken to protect that and other vital parts of its machinery?
§ Mr. CHURCHILLThe lorry was not armoured. As regards the provision of armoured cars for use in Ireland, I would refer the hon. Member to my reply to his question on 28th October. I regret that it is not in the public interest to answer in greater detail.
