HC Deb 03 November 1920 vol 134 c383W
Mr. PENNEFATHER

asked the Secretary of State for War (1) whether the military lorry on which three soldiers were killed and others wounded in county Tipperary on Thursday last was armoured; if not, what protection, if any, was provided for the soldiers who were in it;

(2) whether the disaster to a patrol of the Essex Regiment in Ireland on the 22nd October was due to one of the military lorries employed being brought to a standstill by being struck in a vital part of its machinery by a bullet; and, if so, whether any precautions had been taken to protect that and other vital parts of its machinery?

Mr. CHURCHILL

The lorry was not armoured. As regards the provision of armoured cars for use in Ireland, I would refer the hon. Member to my reply to his question on 28th October. I regret that it is not in the public interest to answer in greater detail.
