HC Deb 06 May 1920 vol 128 c2273W
Mr. PALMER

asked the Secretary of State for War and Air whether his attention has been called to the case of Lieutenant C. H. Clendining, 1st Garrison Battalion, Royal Irish Rifles, who, it is alleged, while at Cawnpore in 1917, was subject to a conspiracy to keep him under restraint as insane; and whether, as many officers are involved in the matter, he will call for a Report on the case?

Mr. CHURCHILL

Full information as to the case of Lieutenant Clendining is already in the possession of the War Office. The stigma of insanity was never placed on this officer, and the allegation that he was subject to a conspiracy while at Cawnpore in 1917 is without foundation.
