HC Deb 06 May 1920 vol 128 cc2252-3W
Brigadier-General COCKERILL

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland what arrangements have been made by the Government for the accommodation of the families of members of the Royal Irish Constabulary whose barracks have been destroyed; and what compensation has been or will be given to them for personal property of which they have been deprived?

Mr. HENRY

The wives and families who occupied barracks which have been destroyed have in some cases been provided for by Government paying travelling expenses to their homes, and giving the lodging allowance usually paid to married men not accommodated in barracks. In other cases accommodation elsewhere has been obtained for them. Where personal property has suffered, compensation can be sought under the Malicious Injuries Act, and this is being done in a number of instances.
