HC Deb 06 May 1920 vol 128 c2247W
Mr. FOREMAN

asked the Minister of Labour if he can now make a statement as to the system under which he proposes to reconsider the cases of hardship owing to pensioners being refused grants by the Civil Liabilities Commissioners on the ground of their applications being too late?

Dr. MACNAMARA

This matter is still under consideration. I am not yet in a position to make any statement in the matter. I will ask my hon. Friend to put down another question later.

Mr. F. ROBERTS

asked the Minister of Labour whether his attention has been drawn to the case of Re. 17,358 Gunner F. Chalmley, Royal Garrison Artillery, 34, Harrison Street, Blackburn, who made application for a grant from the Civil Liabilities Committee on the 18th February last to enable him to start business; whether he is aware that no reply has been received to his application; and whether he will have inquiries made into the matter?

Dr. MACNAMARA

There is no trace at the headquarters of the Civil Liabilities Department of any application from an individual of the name and address given. I am, however, having inquiry made to see whether any application has been received by the Department's Local Commissioner or by the local war pensions committee, and I will communicate the result to my hon. Friend at the earliest possible moment.
