HC Deb 05 May 1920 vol 128 cc2099-100W
Sir H. NIELD

asked the Minister of Food whether he is aware that it has been recently alleged in a London daily newspaper that although syrup (a controlled article) is now being charged to the public at 1s. 3½d. per pound no fewer than 5,000 barrels of that commodity have been lying at the Surrey Docks for over two years; whether there is any foundation for that statement, and, if so, what steps does he propose to take to put the goods on the market and reduce the price; and, if there be no ground for this allegation, will he endeavour to prosecute those who are found to be disseminating false statements?

Mr. McCURDY

I would refer the hon. and learned Member to the answers already given on the 22nd April and the 3rd May to the hon. Members for West Bermondsey (Mr. Glanville) and Rother-hithe (Mr. Lort-Williams) respectively. The statements referred to have already been contradicted in the public press, and in the circumstances I do not consider that any further action is necessary.
