HC Deb 05 May 1920 vol 128 cc2098-9W
Mr. L. LYLE

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty the exact extent to which the Germans have carried out the handing over of naval material of any sort, as stipulated by the Peace Treaty?

Sir J. CRAIG

As regards men-of-war, Germany has already surrendered

  • 4 Battleships.
  • 4 Light cruisers.
  • 26 Destroyers.

All her submarines.

It is anticipated that a further two battleships will be surrendered early in May. The above includes the ships salved after having been sunk at Scapa. As regards other naval material, the surrender was delayed pending a decision as to the armament of the German post- war fleet. This point was decided by the Conference of Ambassadors on 16th March last, but the Committee of Control in Berlin has not yet reported.
