Mr. MACLEANasked the Lord Privy Seal whether the Government have decided on a revision of the rates of wages of cleaners, caretakers, and night watchmen employed in the Government Departments with the exception of the Post Office; whether this revision will be in a downward direction, resulting in many cases in a reduction of several shillings per week; whether this revision is to be initiated by first of all giving notice of discharge to the employes affected; and whether this matter will be given further consideration before such action is taken?
§ Mr. BALDWINNo general revision of the wages of cleaners, caretakers and night watchmen employed in Government Departments is contemplated. Certain anomalies, however, are being rectified. As regards the Ministry of Labour, I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which has been given to the, question addressed by him to that Department.
