HC Deb 04 May 1920 vol 128 cc1926-7W
Mr. A. T. DAVIES

asked the First Commissioner of Works when it is proposed to vacate the Hotel Metropole and the premises formerly used by the National Liberal Club; and what other hotels and public buildings used by the Government during the War period will be vacated and returned to their former uses during the next three months?

Sir A. MOND

The Hotel Metropole was vacated in February and the National Liberal Club in December last. The Victoria and Albert Museum and the Imperial Institute will be vacated within the next few weeks, and a portion of the Tate Gallery is also being reinstated, but the authorities concerned will no doubt arrange for the buildings to be opened to the public as soon as they are in a posi- tion to do so. So far as my Department is concerned, there is only one actual hotel still occupied under the Defence of the Realm Act, and this cannot be vacated within three months.
