asked the Minister of Labour the approximate number of convictions during the present year for obtaining money fraudulenty under the unemployment grants in the Metropolitan area alone?

Dr. MACNAMARA

In the Metropolitan Police District, since the 1st January last, there have been 44 convictions for obtaining, or attempting to obtain, money fraudulently under the Out-of-Work Donation scheme. There has been one conviction for a similar offence under the National Insurance (Unemployment) Acts, 1911 to 1919. Also in seven cases workmen have been bound over.
