HC Deb 04 May 1920 vol 128 c1922W
Mr. MacVEAGH

asked the Attorney-General for Ireland, with reference to the Madden trial in Dublin, at what stage of the trial the Crown counsel, Mr. Wylie, was supplied with Gilligan's original statement; who were the officials in Dublin Castle and at the constabulary depot who interviewed Gilligan, and who were in possession of his contradictory statements; and whether, in view of the jury's verdict and of the comments of the Lord Chief Justice on Gilligan's evidence, it is intended to prosecute him for perjury and conspiracy to murder?

Mr. HENRY

Mr. Wylie was supplied with Gilligan's original statement during the course of the Crown case after the luncheon interval of the first day of the trial. It is not considered advisable in the public interest to disclose the names of the officials referred to. The answer to the last part of the question is in the negative.
