HC Deb 04 May 1920 vol 128 c1924W
Mr. RODGER

asked the Secretary for Scotland if he is aware that certain registration officers in Lanarkshire have refused to deal with claims for registration of local government electors for the Spring Register, and have intimated that such claims should be held over for the Autumn Register; if there is any authority for such action; and if any remedy is open to the persons concerned, who are thus deprived of the opportunity of signing the requisition in connection with the Temperance (Scotland) Act?

Mr. MUNRO

Under powers conferred upon them by Section 43 (8) of the Representation of the People Act, 1918, the County Council of Lanark have passed a resolution that the registration officers in preparing the Spring Registers of Voters for this year should not include the names of persons entitled to vote as local government electors. The answer to the last part of the question is in the negative.
