asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade what quantities of hides were imported into this country in 1913 from Russia and Germany respectively; and what steps are being taken to re-open the importation of hides from those countries?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

The quantifies of hides (other than leather) imported into the United Kingdom, consigned from the countries specified, in 1913 were 164,000 cwts. from Russia and 45,000 cwts. from Germany. There are no restrictions on the importation of hides from Germany. The arrangements with regard to trade with Russia are at present under consideration.
