Mr. PALMERasked the Home Secretary whether he has now considered the case of Percy Clarke, booking clerk and porter, of Burnadge, who is undergoing a sentence of three months' imprisonment in the second division for theft; whether he is aware that the accused had a clean military record and at the time of his offence was still suffering from shrapnel wounds in the head were circumstances not adduced before the magistrate; and whether, having regard to this being Clarke's first offence and to all the circumstances of the case, he will see Ms way to remit the remainder of the sentence?
§ Mr. SHORTTI have carefully considered this case, but I regret that I should not feel justified in advising any interference with the sentence passed by the court. His previous good character was taken into consideration by the magistrates.
