§ Captain BOWYERasked the Prime Minister whether he is aware of the injustice involved in the present administration of the old age pension, in view of the fact that, as now administered, it offers no inducement to save but rather encourages expenditure; and will he at the earliest possible moment amend the Act so that the 10s. per week is paid to all old age pensioners regardless of what they may have saved or possess?
§ Mr. BALDWINThe Government cannot consider any amendment such as that suggested of the main provisions of the Old Age Pension Act, 1919, which was passed as recently as the end of December last.
