§ Colonel NEWMAN asked the Secretary of State for India whether a captain of the Royal Army Veterinary Corps serving in India receives in the main £200 per annum less than an officer of the same rank serving at Home; whether the pay per month is Rs. 700, an increase only of 50, that this increase in British money is from £520 per annum to £560 per annum, or £171 per annum less than at Home; whether the horse allowance for two horses of Rs. 60 per month entails a further loss to the officer, as the cost of two syces is Rs. 30, and fodder Rs. 80; whether at home the Government supply horses at £10 per annum and give free issue of forage, whereas in India the officer has to buy a horse out of his limited pay; and will he take steps to have these anomalies adjusted?
