HC Deb 28 June 1920 vol 131 c57W

Sir W. BULL asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury what was the number of documents stamped with the I.V.D. particulars delivered stamp in the financial year ending 31st March last?

Mr. BALDWIN: The number of documents stamped with the I.V.D. particulars delivered stamp in the year ending 31st March, 1920, is 505,580.

Mr. L. SCOTT asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will consider the advisability of abolishing the stamp for Increment Value Duty which, under Section 4 of the Finance (1909-10) Act, 1910, has to be impressed upon every conveyancing instrument before it can be regarded as duly stamped; whether this stamp is a source of constant and serious delay, especially in the provinces; and whether, since the Finance Bill proposes to abolish all Land Values Duties except Mineral Rights Duty, there is any longer any justification for the stamp?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN: I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply which I gave to the hon. Member for Thronbury (Mr. Rendall) on 3rd May. I am causing a copy of that reply to be sent to him.
