§ Commander Viscount CURZONasked the Minister of Transport whether he will cause a memorandum to be circulated to the Members of this House setting out the objections to the continuance of the petrol duty, and giving in particular any 1787W memoranda prepared by the Customs and Excise for the information of the Departmental Committee on Taxation of Road Vehicles; evidence given before the said Committee; and any additional information in the possession of his Department?
§ Mr. NEALThe Minister of Transport has already dealt on several occasions with the objections to the continuance of the petrol duty, and the question will no doubt arise again on the Committee stage of the Finance Bill. The grounds for the recommendation of the Committee are fully set out in their report, and it is not desirable that the proceedings of a Departmental Committee should be published. I will, however, endeavour to supply any available figures bearing on the question which the hon. Member considers will assist him.
