§ Mr. ATKEYasked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that owners of agricultural tractors are being summoned on the ground that the plates on the driving wheels of their tractors do not conform to the Heavy Motor Car Order of 1904; and whether, having regard to the exemption granted to locomotives under five tons by the Locomotives on Highways (Agricultural Locomotives No. II.) Regulations, 1917, he will take steps to ensure that a similar exemption be accorded to agricultural 1779W tractors until such time as the new Regulations amending the Heavy Motor Car Order, 1914, come into operation?
§ Mr. NEALI am not aware of any such prosecutions. The Regulations referred to were made under Section 9 of the Locomotives and Highways Act, 1896, and are operative for the duration of the War. They will, therefore, automatically cease to have effect after the official declaration of the termination of the War. The whole question of the revision of existing Regulations, both as regards heavy motor cars and locomotives, is under consideration by the Departmental Committee on the Taxation and Regulation of Road Vehicles.
