§ Mr. RAMSDENasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether it is his intention to allow the current rate of bank interest, or average rate of bank interest, on sums of money wrongly charged by the Inland Revenue under the Excess Profits Duty and eventually recovered, many sums of which have been paid to his department for three years and more and are returned without any interest allowance whatsoever?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINI am not prepared to adopt my hon. Friend's suggestion that interest should be allowed on repayments of Excess Profits Duty, nor do I admit the implication that if a repayment is made, the duty has therefore been wrongly charged.
