§ Mr. CAPEasked the President of the Board of Education whether his attention has been drawn to the refusal of the Cumberland County Education Committee to pay its teachers the scale as laid down in the Burnham Report; whether all head teachers received a communication from the secretary of the Education Committee to the effect that the salary due on the 31st May could not be paid on that date; and whether he will make representations to the Committee on these matters?
§ Mr. FISHERThe answer to the first and second parts of the question is in the negative. According to my information, the local education authority for Cumberland adopted the provisional minimum salary scale early this year, and I have no reason to believe that they have refused to put it into effect. Any question of detail upon the interpretation or administration of that scale can be referred either by authorities or by associations of teachers to the Reference Committee of the Standing Joint Committee.
