JONESasked the President of the Board of Trade what properties are occupied in connection with the timber operations at Pennal, together with the amount of rent and rates payable in respect thereof; how many men are still employed at Pennal; what are their duties and the amount of wages paid per month; and at what date is this operation to be brought to a close?
§ Mr. BRIDGEMANThe property occupied in connection with the timber operation at Pennal is the house known as Pennal Towers together with the stables, etc., attached thereto; the rent is at the rate of £150 per annum, and rates and taxes with the exception of Landlords Property Tax are payable in addition; two men are at present employed, one as caretaker of the house at 5s. per week, and one labourer at 50s. per week who works in the grounds. The timber operations are practically completed, but there is a certain amount of clearing up to be done, and it is hoped that the operation will be closed by the end of September.
