§ Lieut.-Colonel CROFTasked the Chief Secretary for Ireland the total number of men receiving unemployment donations in Ulster and the rest of Ireland; whether he is aware of the fact that numbers of men in the South of Ireland who are receiving unemployed donation are reported to be actively working in the Sinn Fein interest; and whether he will recommend that unemployment donation in the South and West of Ireland shall cease except so far as it applies to discharged sailors and soldiers?
§ Dr. MACNAMARAI have been asked to reply. The number of men claiming out-of-work donation in Ireland on 2nd July was 17,709, of whom approximately2172W 5,500 were in Ulster. I have no information on the point raised in the second part of the question. In regard to the third part, I would remind my hon. and gallant Friend that since the end of November last, no donation has been paid to civilians other than merchant seamen; the figures given above relate entirely to ex-service men, with the exception of about 100 merchant seamen.
