HC Deb 08 July 1920 vol 131 c1676W

Lieut.-Colonel PINKHAM asked the Secretary of State for War why it is proposed to discontinue the Runemede Rifle Range at Staines; and whether something will be done to retain the usefulness of this range, seeing that the Middlesex Territorials, Eton, Harrow, Dulwich, Merchant Taylors, St. Pauls, Mill Hill, Beaumont, King's College, Officers' Training Corps units, Household Brigade, Royal Air Force, and other troops are trained in musketry at the range?

Mr. CHURCHILL: Runemede Rifle Range is not War Department property. It is owned by the Metropolitan Rifle Range Company, which since 1913 has lost the firing rights over a considerable portion of the danger area and in consequence the range cannot now be used. It was closed for Regular troops before the War, although it was used occasionally during the War.
