HC Deb 08 July 1920 vol 131 c1693W

Major GLYN asked the President of the Board of Trade what have been the arrangements made by his Department in consultation with the Department of Overseas Trade and the Foreign Office with a Mr. Tilden Smith for a monopoly in the export of timber from Latwidja; whether this gentleman has been able with, or without the assistance of the Government to come to any terms with the Esthonian Government in regard to a monopoly in the export of either flax or timber; and whether it is the policy of the Government to do everything possible to encourage trading between Great Britain and those new territories established by the Peace Treaty?

Mr. KELLAWAY: I have been asked to reply. The answer to the first part of the question is that no arrangements of the kind indicated have been made with Mr. Tilden Smith by the Board of Trade, or by any other Department; the answer to the second part of the question, so far as I am aware, is in the negative, and to the last part in the affirmative.
