HC Deb 08 July 1920 vol 131 c1673W

Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that Sapper A. Priest, Royal Engineers, who was arrested on the 9th October, 1919, at Poperinghe by the French Customs officers, was on the 30th of that month, while being escorted to No. 5 district F.P. compound, compelled to hand over to his escort various personal belongings; whether the articles in question were subsequently lost and could not be traced; whether, as they were handed over under compulsion, the War Office is responsible for them; and whether due compensation should be made to Mr. Priest for their loss?

Sir A. WILLIAMSON: I am making further inquiries in this case, and will write to the hon. Member as soon as possible.
