HC Deb 07 July 1920 vol 131 c1481W
Mr. MALONE

asked the Minister of Labour the amount of Indian labour employed at the Etna Steel Works, Wishaw; whether any complaints have been made at the local labour exchange; and what rates of pay these men have been and are receiving?

Dr. MACNAMARA

I understand that from 20 to 30 lascars are employed at the Etna Steel Works, Motherwell, and a further 20 at the Stainton Iron and Steel Works and the Glasgow Iron and Steel Company, Wishaw. I am informed that the men receive the standard rate of wages for the work upon which they are engaged and are employed under the same conditions as British workmen. A resolution of protest with regard to the employment of these men has been passed by the local employment committee at Motherwell.
