§ Mr. BENNETTasked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will give a list of the Colonies and Protectorates the retired officers of which have been granted an increase in their pensions; what has been the rate of such increase; and whether it has been given independently of the date of retirement?
§ Lieut.-Colonel AMERYIncreases of pension have been granted to retired officers of the following Colonies and Protectorates, irrespective of the date of retirement: East Africa Protectorate, Zanzibar Protectorate, Nigeria, Gold 1463W Coast, Sierra Leone, Cambia, Windward Islands, Leeward Islands (St. Kitts Nevis, Antigua), British Guiana, Falkland Islands, British Honduras, Mauritius, Ceylon, Straits Settlements and Federated Malay States, Hong Kong, Bechuanaland Protectorate, Swaziland Protectorate, Basutoland, Gibraltar, Malta, Cyprus. In the Protectorate of Nyasaland, Uganda, and Somaliland, where the principle governing increase of pension in the Home Civil Service has been followed, increases of pension have been granted only to those officers who retired while in receipt of war bonus or war allowance. The scale of increase differs in the various Colonies and Protectorates, and I am unable to give particulars of the rates within the limits of this reply. If my hon. Friend so desires, I will be pleased to furnish him with full particulars as soon as a statement can be prepared.
