§ Major PRESCOTTasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Shipping Controller whether he is aware of the great difficulty being experienced by local authorities in obtaining a supply of granite macadam from the Channel Islands; whether he has taken any steps to enable cargoes of granite to be conveyed from Guernsey at a reasonable rate of freightage, so that highway authorities may be permitted to carry out works of construction and maintain their highways, which are notoriously in need of repair; and if he will investigate the abnormal rates of freightage being charged by shipowners for the transport of other material, to the detriment of stone cargoes?
