Mr. DOYLEasked the Home Secretary whether, in view of the disastrous fire which occurred recently in Newcastle-on-Tyne owing to the storage of cinematograph films in unsuitable premises, and in which a great number of lives were lost, 1944W he will exercise his powers under Article 35 of the Defence of the Realm Regulations and issue an Order on similar lines to those at present in force in Liverpool, Leeds, Birmingham, and other places, so as to prevent the possibility of a recurrence of a similar lamentable and preventive tragedy?
§ Sir J. BAIRDI do not think this is a matter which should be dealt with under the special powers given by the Defence of the Realm Regulations, but my right hon. Friend is considering the question of introducing general legislation to deal with it at an early opportunity.
