§ Commander BELLAIRSasked the Minister of Labour whether he will circulate in the OFFICIAL REPORT or publish in the "Labour Gazette" a list of trades from which women are excluded under the Restoration of Pre-War Practices Act?
§ Dr. MACNAMARAThe Restoration of Pre-War Practices Act applies to individual establishments, not to trades, and it is limited in its operation to certain establishments, as defined in the Act. In so far as it concerns the employment of women, the Act provides that where in establishments to which the Act applies men were replaced by women during and in consequence of the War, and such substitution of women for men amounted to a change in the trade practice obtaining in the industry or branch of the industry, the women are to be replaced by men upon the work in question. The question 1595W whether there is a trade practice to be restored is one of fact in each case, and my hon. and gallant Friend will see, therefore, that it is impracticable to compile the list which he suggests.
