HC Deb 29 April 1920 vol 128 c1447W
Major W. MURRAY

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture whether any provision for the cultivation of sugar beet by small holders has been made in connection with the establishment of the sugar beet factory at Kelham?

Sir A. BOSCAWEN

I am informed that the directors of the company have not ignored the possibility of obtaining supplies of beet from small holders in the neighbourhood, and that the question is at present under their consideration. I may add that it is proposed to grow sugar beet for the factory on the Ministry's profit sharing farm settlement which adjoins the Company's property and that small holders on the settlement will also be encouraged to grow beet.
