HC Deb 29 April 1920 vol 128 c1439W
Mr. ATKEY

asked the President of the Board of Education whether he is aware that the proposal to raise the limit of school rates from 2s. 3d. in the £ to 4s. in the £ is considered abrupt and excessive; and whether he is prepared to reconsider the retention of the 2s. 3d. limit, or a postponement of the new limit until 1921 or 1922, or in the alternative to make the new limit 3s. in the £?

Mr. FISHER

I would refer the hon. Member to the answer which I gave on the 20th instant to the hon. Member for Colne Valley (Mr. Mallalieu). I see no prospect of reverting to the "prescribed amount" of 2s. 3d.
