HC Deb 29 April 1920 vol 128 c1438W
Major EDWARDS

asked the Minister of Pensions whether the grants given to ex-soldiers by the Military Service (Civil Liabilities) Department are based on local inquiry; and, if so, whether there is any appeal from such a decision and to whom?

Dr. MACNAMARA

I have been asked to reply to this question. Local investigations and inquiries are made on each application to the Civil Liabilities Department, but the decision is given and the grant made by the headquarters of the Department, due weight being given to the local recommendation. All appeals are carefully considered by a special appeal section at the headquarters of the Department.
