HC Deb 29 April 1920 vol 128 c1449W
Sir W. JOYNSON-HICKS

asked the Secretary of State for India whether certain British regiments, enlisted and paid in England at one rate of pay, have, on their arrival in India, been cut down to a lower rate owing to a dispute between the War Office and the India Office; and when will the mistake be rectified?

Mr. MONTAGU

There is no dispute between the India Office and the War Office, and British soldiers in India are at present receiving pay in rupees which is more than equivalent to the present War Office rates at home converted at the current rate of exchange.
