§ Mr. HOGGEasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the total amount of the indebtedness of foreign countries and of our Dominions and Colonies, respectively, to this country; and the amount of interest which he estimates will be paid on these loans during the current financial year?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINThe obligations of the Allies to this country at the present moment amount to £1,622,000,000, and those of the Dominions and Colonies to £186,000,000. I anticipate that about £6,000,000 will be received in the current financial year in interest payments from the Dominions and Colonies. Sums so received are paid into Exchequer under the head Receipts from Sundry Loans. As I stated previously, with minor exceptions no interest is being paid by the Allies at present.
