asked the Secretary to the Treasury if he will give the amount of War Savings Certificates bought, and the amount now due from the Government to investors is. War Savings Certificates?

Mr. BALDWIN

The gross total sales at 15s. 6d. a Certificate in the period from 22nd February, 1916, when Certificates were first issued, to 8th November, 1919, were £288,601,000, of which £84,903,000 has been subscribed, within twelve months since the Armistice. Allowing for withdrawals, the capital now invested in Loan Savings Certificates is approximately £261,000,000, the accrued interest on which may be estimated at approximately £12,000,000.

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether the Government is prepared to extend the limit of individual holdings of War Saving Certificates beyond £500?
