HC Deb 26 November 1919 vol 121 c1813W
MR. F. GREEN

asked the Food Controller what was the total amount of bacon taken over from the Co-operative Wholesale Society in stock or store in this country on 9th August, when it was decided to re-establish control in bacon; what amount in addition has since been taken over for which contracts had been made at the date of recontrol between the Co-operative Wholesale Society and sellers in the United States and Canada; and what was the average price paid for the same, calculated on a basis of delivered free in store at Liverpool or Manchester?

Mr. McCURDY

No bacon held by the Co-operative Wholesale Society in stock or store in this country was taken over by the Ministry when control was resumed on 9th August. It is not the practice of the Department to disclose information as to traders' private business, and I therefore do not propose to state the amount taken over for which contracts had been made at the date of resumption of control between the Co-operative Wholesale Society and sellers in the United States and Canada. The prices to be paid for the bacon requisitioned from the Society have not yet been settled.
