HC Deb 25 November 1919 vol 121 cc1646-7W
MR. R. McNEILL

asked the Pensions Minister what is the position as regards pension of a woman with children, deserted by her husband to whom a pension has been awarded and who disappears without submitting himself for medical re-examination; is the woman in such a case deprived of the pension which she has been entitled to receive by a separation Order of Court; and, if so, in what way is it expected that she is to maintain her self and her children?

Sir J. CRAIG

The pension and children's allowances awarded to a disabled man depend upon the extent of his disability, and when the period of an award expires a re-examination of the man is absolutely essential, in order to deter mine whether any, and, if so, what, degree of disability remains. If the man refuses to submit himself to re-examination, pension under the Royal Warrant must cease. In certain cases, where the pension has ceased in circumstances similar to those referred to, the Special Grants Committee have been able to assist the wife and children, and if my hon. Friend will furnish me with particulars of any case he may have in mind, I will ask them to consider it.
