HC Deb 18 November 1919 vol 121 cc382-3W
MR. HANCOCK

asked the Food Controller whether he can state the kinds and quantities of food that have, been condemned and destroyed at the various food depots of the country during the present year, and also give the names of the depots?

Mr. McCURDY

I have been in consultation on this matter with the Minister of Health, to whose province the condemnation of foodstuffs as unfit for human consumption 'belongs; and I am afraid that records are not kept in such detail as to give the particulars for which the hon. Member asks. I may gay, however, that the quantity of foodstuffs so condemned is extraordinarily small; and, further, that foodstuffs condemned are, in practically every ease, not destroyed, but are utilised for other purposes, being, for example, rendered down into fats for use in cattle-feeding stuffs, lubricating oils, etc., or used in the production of manure.
