HC Deb 18 November 1919 vol 121 cc390-1W
COLONEL YATE

asked the Secretary of State for India whether he will instruet the Government of India that, in the selection of Indians to fill the thirty appointments as probationers for the Indian Civil Service that are to be made in India during the present year otherwise than by open competitive examination, preference is to be given to those Indian candidates who have served during the War, and that a public notification to that effect should be issued by the Government of India?

Mr. MONTAGU

I have already addressed the Government of India as to preference for war service in the case of these appointments.
