HC Deb 17 November 1919 vol 121 c633W
Captain COOTE

asked the Prime Minister whether he is aware that many demobilised soldiers, although on the Parliamentary register, are not qualified to vote at municipal elections owing to [...] having given power of attorney to their wives while on active service; and whether steps will be taken to rectify this anomaly?

Dr. ADDISON

I presume that the hon. and gallant Member has in mind the case of men who were registered as Parliamentary electors in virtue of their qualifications as naval or military voters. This qualification does not confer a right to registration as a local Government elector, but demobilised men will, of course, acquire a right to be registered as local government electors as occupiers of land or premises.
