HC Deb 17 November 1919 vol 121 cc664-5W
Viscount DUNCANNON

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether his attention has been drawn to the circumstances attending the daily examination at Boulogne of British subjects returning to England with regard to their passports, their baggage, and the cash they have upon the person; whether he is aware that they have to put up with great inconvenience and discomfort in undergoing this process, and that accidents may at any time occur owing to the complete want of proper arrangements for carrying out this examination; and whether he will make representations to the French Government that the indignities daily inflicted on British subjects returning home may be put an end to at the earliest possible moment?

Mr. HARMSWORTH

I have made inquiries, and find that complaints of the kind indicated in the Noble Lord's ques- tion have not so far been received at the Foreign Office If he be in a position to bring specific cases to my notice, I will at once have further inquiries made.
