HC Deb 11 November 1919 vol 121 c261W
MAJOR BARNES

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether, in view of the great increase in the price of soap since the Armistice and the fact that recent purchases of soap manufacturing companies have brought the manufacture of soap in this country almost entirely under one control, that of Messrs. Lever, Limited, he will appoint a Committee to inquire into the exercise of that control and report as to the desirability of the State taking any action towards the regulation of the price of this essential commodity?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

A Sub-committee of the Central Committee has already been established under the Profiteering Act, and is at present engaged in investigating and inquiring into the manufacture of soap.
