HC Deb 04 November 1919 vol 120 c1343W
Sir A. WILLIAMSON

asked the Secretary for Scotland if he has received representations from the county council of Elgin asking for official sanction to be given to the change of name of the county from Elgin to Moray; and whether he is now prepared to give his assent to the proposal?

Mr. MUNRO

I am not aware that I have any power to sanction the change suggested. When a Statute refers to the county of Elgin an amending Act would be necessary to alter the designation. Within these limits I am quite willing to encourage the substitution of Moray for Elgin in official correspondence as the more appropriate designation.
