Mr. KENNEDY JONESasked the Minister of Labour if he will state the number of discharged and demobilised soldiers and sailors who are now on the unemployment list of the Labour Exchanges; whether he can give the percentages of those who returned to specific employment and of those for whom employment has since been found as compared with the entire total of men liberated from the Army and Navy and fitted to do work of any sort?
Sir R.HORNEOn the 9th May, the latest date for which figures are available, the total number of discharged and demobilised soldiers, sailors, and airmen who were registered at the Employment Exchanges as unemployed was 408,491; separate figures for soldiers and sailors apart from airmen are not available. I estimate that about 81 per cent. of the men demobilised from the Navy, Army, and Air Force are now in employment.
