Major DAVID DAVIESasked the Home Secretary whether any scheme dealing with the compensation to be paid in respect of accidents to disabled soldiers and sailors has been agreed upon; whether arrangements have been made with insurance companies for the issue of policies under such a scheme; whether legislation will have to be introduced to carry a scheme into effect; and, if so, whether he can give the date upon which the Bill will be introduced?
§ Sir HAMAR GREENWOODIt is proposed to adopt a scheme on the lines recommended in the Report of the Departmental Committee on Compensation for Disabled Sailors and Soldiers under the Workmen's Compensation Act, 1906. The necessary arrangements with insurance companies and others to give effect to the scheme have been or are being provisionally settled, and a Bill—The Disabled Men (Facilities for Employment) Bill—to authorise the Home Office to ratify the arrangements, was introduced in this House on the 5th instant, and has been read a second time.
